From the Counselor’s Desk:                                                    October 20, 2009   Issue 4

I trust that you enjoyed your Fall Break.  The year is going very quickly.  You should be actively seeking out colleges that you would like to submit applications too.  Do not let time slip away.  Your senior year is very busy with lots of events that you do not want to miss out on, but you do not want to miss applications deadlines and scholarship opportunities.  It may be helpful to make a list of the college(s) that you wish to attend and keep a calendar of important deadline dates.  You should also be working on essays and completing your personal resume that may be submitted with your application.

·   REMINDER:  ACT TEST THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24.  Do not forget two #2 pencils, a calculator, and eat a good breakfast.  Try to get a good night’s sleep before the test.

·   CAMERON UNIVERSITY AGGIE SNEAK PEAK:  NOVEMBER 7, for more information contact www.cameron.edu/aggiesneakpeek or 580-581-5496.

·   SWOSU CAMPUS PREVIEW DAY:  NOVEMBER 7, 11;00 AM If you are interested in attending Southwestern Okla. State University this is a great opportunity to check out the campus, talk to faculty and staff, and attend a free football game.  If you are interested see me for more information, or call 580-774-3782, or email:  admissions@swosu.edu.

·   The University of Oklahoma offers a seven hour ACT prep class.  The cost is $90.  and is offered every couple of months prior to a national test date.  If you are interested, please come by and I will get you the necessary application and information, or you may call 405-325-6897 or contact http://youth.ou.edu.

·   Just a note of advice:  Be aware of possible scholarship scams.  There are some individuals that say they can get you scholarship dollars and charge you a fee.  There is no reason to pay someone to find you scholarship dollars.  You can do the work yourself; it just takes a little time on your behalf.  Utilize the websites and other resources that you receive from me. Some of these scams end up soliciting student loans, so be careful.
